We are seeking a reliable, patient, and caring babysitter for our 16-year-old son with autism in Schaumburg, Chicago, IL. This role is perfect for students studying Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Education, Human Services, Nursing, or other helping professions, as it offers excellent experience. While previous experience with autism or special needs is a plus, it is not required. Key qualities for the candidate include the right personality, willingness to learn, and consistency.
Responsibilities include meeting him when he arrives home, assisting him out of the vehicle if needed, preparing a simple snack or dinner, encouraging cleanup after meals, providing supervision and companionship, and helping maintain a calm, positive routine. The ideal candidate will be dependable, punctual, patient, compassionate, a good communicator, comfortable following directions and routines, and have reliable transportation.
This is a part-time position with a school-year schedule of Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Note that every other weekend he is with his dad, so alternating weeks have no shifts on Friday and Saturday. The position is expected to begin the week of August 8, with an earlier start possible for the right candidate. There are no dogs or cats present, though other pets are on the premises. If you're interested in making a positive impact in a teenager's life, we'd love to hear from you.
