Toddler Early Literacy Babysitter

An UVA faculty family in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a thoughtful, energetic individual to work one-on-one with a book-loving toddler on early reading and literacy. This part-time position involves working approximately 90 minutes per afternoon, ideally 3-5 weekdays per week, in the late afternoon between 3:30pm and 6pm. The pay rate is $38/hour. We are looking for someone who loves working with young children and can combine warmth and playfulness with patience, structure, and consistency. The role focuses on engaging the toddler in early-literacy practice without resorting to intense drilling, aiming to maintain and enhance their current early-reading trajectory. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the family to develop engaging strategies, utilizing provided books and materials, to help the toddler connect the dots in learning. While prior experience with toddlers and literacy is beneficial, enthusiasm, energy, curiosity, and a genuine love for children are most important. The position starts in early September and continues through the fall semester, with potential for extension. The family's newborns' caregiver and the mother, who works from home, will also be present during all sessions.
