Adult Respite Caregiver

We are seeking two dependable and patient caregivers to provide in-home respite care for our adult son, Kirin, who is 20 years old, in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Most assignments will be long weekends approximately once every two months, generally spanning from Thursday afternoon to Monday evening, with occasional needs for longer durations up to a week and some daytime hours. Responsibilities include preparing simple meals, snacks, and drinks, providing minimal bathroom assistance, charging electronic devices, maintaining Kirin's routine, and offering attentive supervision. Caregivers must remain awake, attentive, and available throughout their shifts. Kirin is an autistic adult who is mostly nonverbal, so flexibility, strong de-escalation skills, and composure are essential. His father lives locally and may visit during the respite period. There are cats in the home, so comfort with pets is necessary. The home is monitored by security cameras 24/7, and applicants need to be comfortable in this environment. Applicants must be enrolled with or willing to onboard through an agency authorized to provide NC Innovations Waiver services. This agency will manage hiring processes, conduct background checks, and provide paid training. Compensation through the agency will be approximately $16 per hour for authorized hours. Additional private supplementation brings total pay to approximately $26 per hour during day and evening hours and $31 per hour overnight, paid in cash. Reliability is crucial as travel plans are arranged a month in advance. Caregivers should be certain of their availability before committing. Experience with autism, developmental disabilities, respite care, de-escalation, or overnight work is preferred.
